The Time Is Now (by E. Pennimann James)

“The time is now,” Charlie Parker famously said. And the time is now – for the South Brooklyn Jazz Cats to come out and support the premiere South Brooklyn jazz venue – Puppets Jazz Bar. The only club that brings you cats jazz, 7 nights a week and Sunday brunch. The only club where you can catch Arturo O’Farrill play solo for an hour for a mere ten bucks and a drink. And Alex Blake, Bill Ware, Victor Bailey, Jon McNeil, Charnette Moffett. Young cats – plenty, Noah Preminger, Nataliya Z, Kenny Pexton, Stan Killian. Puppets gives these artists a place where all they have to do is play. The time is now for the audience – people to come out, put down a few dollars, and listen to what these artists are trying to say, or play, or blow you away. So on Friday August 27 and Saturday August 28, Puppets is throwing its doors open, gratis, that is no cover, ergo to wit free, and presenting two of the most amazing nights of jazz you might ever hear. The music starts Friday at 6pm on doesn’t stop till … well, till jazz cats don’t show up and plunk down the bucks it takes to make it all happen. As Abbey Lincoln said, YOU GOTTA PAY THE BAND. So put down those fish bones and shake a leg over to Puppets this weekend. You might find yourself wanting to come back.
